Once upon a time, an average student aspiring to be an engineer had to look beyond the frontiers of Orissa to pursue that dream; the choice of engineering institutes in Orissa being limited to only a few government and private ones. With the establishment of BPUT in Orissa in 2003, the number of institutes of technology opening up every year has been prolific. With over a hundred engineering colleges and many other technical, regular, and professional institutions within its ambit at the present, the BPUT has more or less reduced the exodus of the average aspirants for these courses beyond Orissa by a huge margin.
The systematic and advanced curriculum of BPUT and its timely and proper conduction of examination, evaluation of answer sheets, and declaration of results have also made many of the colleges affiliated to it the destination of many a student from the other states across the country. A harmonious combination of discipline and flexibility which is well reflected in the rules and regulations (academic or otherwise) prescribed for the affiliated colleges and their students has also led to the achievement of an open minded pattern of learning and honing of the other faculties of the student’s mind and the body in a relaxed and non-restricted atmosphere. Frequent seminars and teacher training programs have also led to the continuous development and evolution of the knowledge and talent of the members of the faculty who have in turn churned out competent engineers year after year. No doubt, as an organization made by human beings, BPUT also has its own share of problems and faults but from experience, I can well attest that they are the products of Inexperience, lack of resources, and immaturity (it is the youngest university of technology in the country) rather than those of any genuine problems of functioning or incompetence. Better equipped universities have faced even bigger problems and still continued to exist.
BPUT still has some way to go in its journey to becoming the premier university of technology in the country but its journey is well begun.
Indic Institute of Design & Research is an engineering college which is affiliated to BPUT and is located in the vicinity of Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Orissa. It offers B.Tech degree courses in engineering education. It has been started by people who have gone from corporate and industry background to provide quality education to the next generation. Indic admits students through the JEE examination of Orissa.
